capella audio2score start or capella audio2score pro?
This question arises before the purchase, because after all capella audio2score start is the "small" version of capella audio2score pro and therefore does not offer as many functions. On the other hand, the purchase price is lower.
What it can and can not
audio2score start is the "smaller" version, because it completely lacks the post-processing possibility in the program: no sound tissue display, no manual changing of notes.
audio2score start does not distinguish between timbres and arranges the result only as a piano score, while in the "big" version any ensembles are possible. Furthermore, audio2score start does not offer the "holistic recognition" of the "large" version.
Similarities, differences
Both versions now have the new "pop song recognition" and improved "note by note" recognition algorithm. "Note by note" means: the recognized tones are automatically "sorted" and intelligently distributed to different voices.
The AI-assisted recognition works in both versions. This provides much better detection results compared to earlier versions!
The automatic barline detection has also been improved in both versions - "big" and "small". A 4/4 or 3/4 time can now even be recognized automatically.
In capella audio2score pro, you can switch from "wizard mode" to the "main program", where you will find many editing options.
What type of user are you?

- use the helpful post-processing within audio2score pro
- arrange your work as detailed as possible with the help of the sound tissue view
- if you need sheet music not as piano score but for another ensemble (any voices / instruments)
- if you want to take advantage of the timbre separation
- use "holistic recognition" (e.g. exposure of harmonizing accompaniment voices).
capella audio2score start suits you if
- you want to recognize a piece "on the fly" with the best possible result, and prefer to do the post-editing in the music notation environment you are familiar with (e.g. capella)
- the provided piano template is sufficient for your purposes (with pop recognition, the start version can also separate vocals and instrumental melody and notate them in separate staves, but the accompaniment can only be notated as piano)
- you do not need timbre separation and holistic recognition.
